Raffi's Bad Skin Saved Him

Raffi's rescue journey began when I was on my way to town one day and I noticed him because he had bad skin.

He was with some people who he belonged to and I asked them if I could take him to the vet, which they agreed to.

Knowing that dogs in townships are generally not taken care of, I told them that I loved dogs and I asked them if I could perhaps have him, and for the price of a cool drink, they allowed me to.

Raffi was very gentle and sweet but was scared to come out of the bakkie, but the vet gently lifted him out and he allowed this.

The vet wasn't sure what had caused his skin condition as it wasn't ringworm, and he didn't think his hair would grow back.

Raffi's Great Escape!

After we had been to the vet, I stopped off somewhere to get something to eat, thinking that Raffi would be fine in my bakkie.

I had dog bars so he should have been safe, but being scared and not knowing where I was taking him caused him to break out.

Amazingly, he waited for me as if to say "thank you, I'm going now, I have some stuff to do" and then trotted off, and I wondered if he had to say goodbye to his friends before leaving for good.

I followed him until it got dark and I lost him and had to return home, without him, but thankfully, I took the number of the person I got him from and notified them, then I prayed him back safe.

The next day I contact her and collected him for the second time, although this time, he was very difficult to catch, but we managed!

Homeward Bound
Off we went again and after introducing him to the pack, I hand-picked every tick off his body, including from his ears and between his paws.

We gave him a good wash followed by a worming tablet and flea and tick medication and I named him Raffi because he had a long neck like a giraffe!

I massaged his skin daily with my fancy organic shea butter in the hope that it would help his hair to grow back by energising his skin.

I also gave him Efazol, a palatable nutritional supplement containing essential fatty acids, vitamins and zinc known to play an important role in the management of certain skin conditions in dogs.

He got along with everyone very nicely and loved being here, relishing being able to be safe, free, warm, fed and loved.

Ready For His New Home

Raffi is now ready for his new home and we are getting ready to write and share his post and let him go, which is always hard.

He is gentle, calm and quiet and very fast, but not good around cats, you'd have to have a very calm cat and be able to train him.

Raffi is great with other dogs and is very cool, he doesn't bark, is very independent and loves being loved.

I love every dog I rescue, they are all so unique in their own way, all different but all so very special.

May God bless Raffi and gift him with the perfect home, where both his new family and I will be his Trusted Guardians forever.
