Tatters That Don't Matter!

I have a really nice, new, bright orange top on today, the kind of shirt that makes you feel happy, smart and fresh, the type that you save for special occasions like going to town when you're away from the animals.

I sigh and simultaneously smile as I write, Mercy my latest rescue on my knee, resting peacefully now, unlike earlier when the was so excited at my return that she bit through my new top!

And this is generally how my wardrobe looks, chewed shoes and holes in my clothes, my favourite and most expensive items shredded as play things.

I'm the sort of person who wears things until they die, so even though my clothes are a mess, I will still wear them with glee, each chew mark telling a tale!

I've even saved my favourite and über expensive Victoria Secret racer back bra, that I convinced myself I NEEDED and HAD TO HAVE, only for Sweety to get to it first, and it now hangs in tatters waiting in hope to be resurrected as I can't bear to part with it!!!

The Life of A Rescuer!

This is the life of a rescuer, we have to hide or put away everything safely out of reach, especially our treasured possessions, with special reference to original iPhone cables which come at a hefty price tag, so that the dog children don't get them!

When my amazing artist friend came to stay, I warned her not to leave anything lying around or even remotely within reach, especially her shoes, but failing to realise the hazard until it was too late, she found her new trainers chewed by Pupper, the resident shoe thief at the time!

I constantly have to create new and ingenious filing mechanisms to store things so that everything has its place, and even leaving a freshly wrapped loaf of bread out is not safe when Roany meanders around the kitchen as she will chew through it to get to the goodies underneath.

Even my teddies are not safe with missing eyes and noses and the stuffing spread over the lounge,  home stitching holding everything precariously together to prolong its life.

And then, after a long day's work as Chief Servant to the cats and dogs, I rest my weary head on a king size extra length bed where I am relegated to the size of a postage stamp thanks to my 37 Kg dog Scooby who insists on spreading out horizontally together with 4 other dogs arranged puzzle-piece style in various positions around my head, sides and feet, necessitating frequent trips to the chiropractor to realign my hip from the contortion of sleeping, moving and getting up!

Enough Hair To Make A New Dog!

With so many animals, the house has to be cleaned daily, sometimes more than once and there's enough hair each week to make a new dog!

I'm always covered in dog or cat hair and so is my bed, some fabrics just stick better than others, and there is always one dog or cat hair in my food, but I've come to accept and make peace with it and it's a great excuse to have a fresh bed every day.

When I'm away from home, visiting my family or on holiday it's amazing to have clean clothes and clean sheets, and white sheets which is a big no no in my house, but I'm always happy to be back and the mess is all part and parcel of a life of love, sharing and happiness, amongst the craziness.

I once read a piece of writing about a woman who's husband and family drove her mad with toilet seats left up, dirty dishes left in the sink and dirty clothes left on the floor, until contemplating their absence, she re-framed the experience in a way that appreciated and welcomed it all, because it was evidence of the love that surrounded her, that she cherished.

And this is how it is for me, love is messy and things get broken, but it's worth it all.
