The Originals

The cat house was the first house we built for the original cats - Courage, Kittyji, Brownie, Patchy, Gandalf, Blackie & Slinky.

Before we became Chief Servants to the cats, they lived in the recycling yard next door to our house, with nothing and no-one to care for them, other than each other.

It was a tough existence, very basic, and once Christian, my partner, had made friends with them, it was all over, the journey ahead with them had been set!

Their First House

We needed a way to keep the cats safe, warm in the winter and cool in the summer, and somewhere to feed them away from the chickens who kept taking their food.

So here, in the bottom of our garden, next to the recycling yard which they had made their home and playground, the first cat house was born!

It is made from a section of a tent that had become broken, but which worked perfectly when attached to the fence and it has multiple entrances and exits so they feel safe.

Making It Fancy

I had some room dividers which didn't work for the purpose I had intended and we made them into saloon doors which looked fab!

Once we had added a roof to make it waterproof and boxes, rugs and blankets to make it cosy, the cat house was in full swing and enjoyed by many!!

In time, the first females became pregnant and we added snug nesting boxes for them, if they chose, which they did!

Our First Babies!

Brownie was the first Momma to give birth in the cat house, followed by Slinky.

I couldn't resist going in and sneaking a look at momma and babies, there was just so much love there and I was amazed at how attentive they were, never leaving their side, not even for a moment.

Whenever I was stressed, I went to sit in the cat house and it always brought me peace, the mum's weren't all that impressed initially but they gradually accepted me and we became a family.

The Main Feeding Area

The cat house is the main feeding area as it's away from the main house and next to the bush where the cautious cats and the feral cats live, so it's perfectly situated for everyone.

We used to feed one bowl of food, now we are upto 3, and the cat house is one of the many houses they have to choose from, lucky cats!!!

We feed them twice a day, taking care to feed them early before they start jumping over looking for food, and we add various supplements to their food and water to keep them as healthy as possible.

Their Very Own Chef & Cleaner!!!

Of course, we have to keep their houses, rugs and blankets clean, so in addition to having their own personal chef, they now also have a cleaner!!

In fact, the washing has become so much that we need to build a separate laundry room...such are the ever increasing requirements of having so many animals in your care!!!
